Gero Onsen (下呂温泉) is a quiet hot springs town located in the Japanese Alps. During the Edo period, the poet Hayashi Razan called Gero one of Japan’s three best onsen. More than a million visitors come to Gero every year, and it is still rated as one of the best hot spring resorts in Japan. Gero is located between Nagoya and Takayama. It’s only about an hour south of Takayama and is worth stopping for a night or two if you attend the Takayama Festival. We stayed at a large ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) called Yunoshimakan. 🤍 The food and service were outstanding. The facilities are a bit dated and could use some work. All in all, however, we really enjoyed our stay. The public onsen baths are massive there, and I had the outdoor bath all to myself early in the morning. It was amazing. The Old Man was kicked out of the public bath because of his sweet 90s tattoo, but we had a private bath with our room. Hello friends Welcome back to another adventure on Ready Set Japan! Today is my Birthday!! And Achan has surprised me with a prearranged Itineray that I have no idea about. All I can say is you are the world and thank you so much for the wonderful experiences that you included me in. Going on to what I can say, in the span of 3 days we were able to go to Takayama city, OkuHida and then to Gero city. For those wondering where we stayed at in Okuhida, the name of the resort is called Miyama Ouan (深山桜庵) This resort is up in the mountains shrouded in beautiful scenery offering 3 different reservations available hot springs for outside use and two large public baths dedicated to each gender. In this video you can find us as an international couple being us(crazy) in different environments. I have included English subtitles on the bottom for most of our dialogue with each other and other people. Access to the resort is below ☆If you come by car About 50 minutes from Takayama IC on the Chubu Jukan Expressway ☆If you come by bus 60 minutes from JR Takayama Station, get off at "Hirayu Onsen" and walk 7 minutes ☆Free pickup from "Hirayu Onsen" bus stop is available be sure to contact the resort in advance to confirm both schedules.
