Languages of Chad

Chad has two official languages, French and Modern Standard Arabic, and over 120 indigenous languages. A vernacular version of Arabic, Chadian Arabic, is a lingua franca and the language of commerce, spoken by 40-60% of the population. The two official languages have fewer speakers than Chadian Arabic. Standard Arabic is spoken by around 615,000 speakers. French is widely spoken in the main cities such as N'Djamena and by most men in the south of the country. Most schooling is in French. The language with the most first-language speakers is probably Ngambay, with around one million speakers.Chad submitted an application to join the Arab League as a member state on 25 March 2014, which is still pending.Chadian Sign Language is actually Nigerian Sign Language, a dialect of American Sign Language; Andrew Foster introduced ASL in the 1960s, and Chadian teachers for the deaf train in Nigeria. 10 Things You Didn't Know About Chad

Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Chad Hello Displorers, welcome to another exciting video presented to you by Displore and thanks for watching. In this video, we shall be looking at the top things you didn’t know about chad.Chad is a landlocked country in north-central Africa bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, Cameroon to the south-west, Nigeria to the southwest, and Niger to the west.Chad has several regions: a desert zone in the north, an arid Sahelian belt in the centre and a more fertile Sudanian Savanna zone in the south. Lake Chad, after which the country is named, is the largest wetland in Chad and the second-largest in Africa. The capital N'Djamena is the largest city, official languages are Arabic and French but Chad is home to over 200 different ethnic and linguistic groups. Chad remains plagued by political violence and recurrent attempted coups d'état. Chad is one of the poorest and most corrupt countries in the world; most inhabitants live in poverty as subsistence herders and farmers. Since 2003 crude oil has become the country's primary source of export earnings, superseding the traditional cotton industry. Chad has a poor human rights record, with frequent abuses such as arbitrary imprisonment, extrajudicial killings, and limits on civil liberties by both security forces and armed militias. If you are new here, welcome, be sure to subscribe and turn on notifications so you don’t miss any of our videos. Here are top 10 things you probably didn’t know about chad. 1. Chad Is Named After Its Most Popular Lake, Lake Chad. Lake Chad used to be the seventh largest lake in the world and the fourth largest in Africa. However, due to advanced desertification and low rainfall, it has shrunk to less than 10% of its former size and volume. Lake Chad is however the largest lake in the Chad Basin. The freshwater lake that touches base with Nigeria, Cameroon, and Niger is where the country got its name. 2. Crude Oil Is its Economy’s Engine The oil rich nation was first known for its cotton which brought significant wealth to the nation before the discovery of oil in 2003.The first oil pipeline runs through Cameroon, connecting the Doba Basin to the port of Kribi producing 94,000barrels of crude oil daily.Chad's energy sector has had years of mismanagement by the parastatal Chad Water and Electric Society, which provides power for 15% of the capital's citizens and covers only 1.5% of the national population. Most Chadians burn biomass fuels such as wood and animal manure for power which is such a pity for a country rich enough to more than provide energy for its citizens. Hopefully, the Inga dam project will spin the energy fate of the country around.

#YamnayaHorizon #DomesticationOfHorse #ProtoIndoEuropean #Urheimheit #EuropeanHeritage This rare historic document is all about the first Yamnaya (mostly know as “Indo European”) Horizon Expansion. It all started around 4000 BC when our great uncle *Mannus found out that horses made excellent winter livestock because of their hard hooves that could pierce through the frosty ice of the Eurasian Steppe. Later our silly grandpa *Yemos discovered by chance that while being on the horse back you could manage larger herds of sheep. They together decided to extensively exploit these advantages by inventing a chariot that allowed them to move with all the family in order to find better feeding ground for their ever increasing herds. This ingenuity and entrepreneurship (together with a passion for discovery of the unknown) pushed them to colonized pretty much all of the world and achieved *klewos aktitom (Glory imperishable) !!!

Chad Hansen: A Modern Look At Ancient Chinese Theory Of Language

Words and Worlds: New Directions in the Philosophy of Language The 2022/23 Royal Institute of Philosophy London Lecture Series Early in the twentieth century, philosophy in the English-speaking world took what Richard Rorty later called “The Linguistic Turn” in which language became the central focus of philosophy. In the twenty-first century, the philosophy of language remains strong but has changed considerably. This series examines these new directions, including new questions and methods as well as interest in what other disciplines and world philosophies have to teach us. Their talks are aimed as much at the interested generalist as philosophical specialists. All are welcome. Chad Hansen (Hong Kong) A Modern Look at Ancient Chinese Theory of Language Classical (especially pre-Buddhist) philosophy of language gives us one of the most detailed and developed alternative conceptual frameworks for understanding how words, the world, human history and society fit together. In comparison with Western rationalism, that ancient Chinese picture is surprisingly naturalistic. Using a path (dào) rather than a law metaphor to talk about morality and causation explains a lot about how this Chinese naturalism unfolds. Chinese philosophers viewed humans as a part of a natural world, not as spiritually privileged likenesses of a supernatural creator and moral commander. Our ideas are social, historical constructions like the graphs of written Chinese. Dào gives Chinese pragmatism a natural cosmology. Instead of minds populated with ideas, it focuses on social-historical practices, learned behaviours (including naming and cooperating), skills, or know-how, and gives special attention to nature vs. nurture. We are natural inhabitants of a natural world strewn with a network of natural paths to choose from in guiding our shared behaviour as we adapt to and harmonise with nature. We follow natural dào.
