The Bomb Dome, also known as the Atomic Bomb Dome, is a haunting reminder of the devastation caused by the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in World War II. This week we hit our 3rd city that we are seeing in Japan, Hiroshima! We had an absolutely jam packed week here so will have a Hiroshima Vlog #2, so if you enjoyed this one make sure to subscribe and check it out! In this vlog we loop in a little bit of home by checking out a Costco in Japan for the first time! It was mostly like every other Costco we have been to, but with far more Sushi and some very delicious food at the food court that you can’t miss! After that we adventured out to the Hiroshima Castle Grounds, a site of a magnificently reconstructed tower, along with some trees that are still standing after being hit by the Atomic Bomb. The museum inside was certainly worth checking out, as the entrance fee is low (or free! on certain days!) and has so much history inside. We also caught the end of the Yukata festival, kicking off the summer time in Japan! We made the trip from Osaka to Hiroshima by Shinkansen and spent the next two days exploring this wonderful city. This was the first time we had visited Hiroshima, and we really loved it. The river, mountains in the landscape, and a calmer pace really ticked a lot of boxes for us! On the 2nd day, we took the ferry to Miyajima Island, a must if you come to this part of Japan! Although it was a whistlestop tour, we really enjoyed our time in Miyajima. We can't wait to come back to both of these areas again as we felt two days went too quickly! Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day! Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island. I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station. From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go to Miyajima island. During our week-long visit to Hiroshima, we visit some of the memorials commemorating the devastating events that took place on August 6, 1945. The Atomic bomb destroyed most of the city of Hiroshima. It was emotional that day, and it was emotional to edit. I hope you can appreciate the content.
